Digipak Analysis

The album cover does not have no text and it doesn't need it due to the fact the image speaks for itself as her facial expression explains it for itself this is very clever due to that facial expressions show show more than text. The CD cover has an image of a light pink rose this goes with them theme of roses in the digipak and it shows her feminine touch with her laying with loads of roses and roses as the CD cover. The roses on the CD and the roses that Rihanna is laying on contrast between each other as is shows a sense of variety.
In the image of rihanna laying down it shows her bold bright hair standing out with all the other roses this just shows her calmness and her sassiness. The colouring of the roses contrast well with the colour of the artist skin as it makes the red stand more bold and more visible, the is very useful for the digipak as it makes it stand out and have that rawness towards the digipak.
Also on the digipak her eyes are closed this could shows a sign of her embracing the music and her feeling and passion that she has. However the red could show a sense of danger and this could be shown in the her album.
Rihanna dark red lips are a big attraction as it is a big eye opener, is shows that it suits with the whole album as the theme is a red and pink outline but the lips just show her sexiness and sassiness that she has.

Rihanna Magazine Analyses

The advantages and good points about this magazine is that it has most of the conventions that are involved in the cover , it has an image of the album in the bottom right hand corner which is useful because if you wanted to purchase the album you can just look for that image. All the colours in the cover suit and contrast well with each other, the pink matches everything in the cover, its very eye catching which automatically brings you to look at the magazine cover. It has her name on the top who is the artist and the album name which is called 'loud' on the magazine cover it says it out now which tells you that you can buy the album. The big image in the middle is very unique as it shows that she's a sophisticated person.

The disadvantages to the magazine cover is that at the top of the magazine cover the colouring of the artist name is hard to see so if you was briefly looking at the cover you would think 'Ihanna' not 'Rihanna' due to the fact its quiet hard to stop and see. The other disadvantage to the magazine cover is it tells you that the albums out but its doesn't tell a specific date so it could be out for a long time but you wouldn't know when it come out so Rihanna could of released another cover by that time.

Magazine Advert Conventions

In a magazine you are likely to find these conventions :

- Release Date
- Album Name
- The Artists Name
- Reviews / Quotes / Stars
- Websites
- Scanning icons for more information about the magazine
- Image
- Were the song is avaliable like HMV, Itunes etc

Below is a type of magazine advert for david ford and someone has created this and they have included the different types of conventions like the release date at the top of the cover, the artist name in yellow writing. the album name underneath the artist name. It has the big image of the guitar in the middle which draws the views eyes.

The process of Making a Music video

Our group have just started to create our music video and the first step we made was to upload the footage that we had, and save it in the space provided. This space is so the video footage can be placed in and when we need it we can put it into the timeline and then edit it.

As you can see here i have put my pieces of footage in the timeline and I have started to edit the pieces of footage together. The lines shown are called toggle clip overlay button and this provides the black lines, it helps me edit sharply and efficiently making it easier to do this.

Three of My Favourite Music Video

My first choice of favourite song is redlight - Get out my head this is because it has a lot of fast editing at the start of the song, and this was something i wanted to en role in my actual music video as i enjoy editing and putting pieces of film together, also the editing is very constructed and well planned to edit the same time as the beat of the music. In this video it is done perfectly and a very good video to watch if you want to learn how to edit in time with the beat.

The next song which I really enjoy is Ed Sheeran - You need me as this song is very clever in the way the director has constructed this video as the whole song is someone dancing but at the same time doing sign language so the song also reaches out to deaf people. I think this song is very effective towards people because it has an upright beat and tone to the song and it also very abstract and different when being made which makes the whole song standout.

My third Favourite song is Frank Ocean - Thinking about you and this song is very inspiring in many ways. As at the start of the song is has a sovereign tone which make you feel for the people in the song, throughout the song the lyrics make you wonder how the video matches but the video is very contrapuntal to the song  and this what i like about it because it makes the song different. Another reason why i like this is because the song is in an updated genre which he thought about so he can reach to a wide variety of people.

Target Audience

The target audience for my music video would be teenagers aged between 15 - 19 as this age is mainly connecting to the internet and they are listening to music, but this song can reach to a wider range of people this is because the song itself is very creative. Angel the artist has already been signed and therefore his songs will get played on a variety of radio station, reaching out to a wider audience.

Music Video Success Criteria

To create a successful music video, you need people to obviously like it and watch the video.

Word of mouth

Newspapers Articles
Number of hits on YouTube
Charts
CD sales
Download - iTunes
Amount of publicity
Number of time it has appear on TV

Jamie Thraves Case Studies

Jamie Thraves

Jamie made short films at university.
used Award winning short films as a calling card to get a foot in the door with the video production company Factory Films.
He began by shooting three very low budget music video costing about £5,000 each.

This is how the process works :

A 'Commissioner' from a record label send a tack to 5 - 10 Directors

The director then each subtracts a treatment.
This stage is unpaid.
The Director who has submitted the best treatment is the commissioned to make the video.
Only then the director is paid.

As can be seen for many director in the business it is a precision existence where their livelihood is dependent on each commission.

Jamie Thrave submitted treatment for his two best known videos and each was accepted.

1. RadioHead - Just Cost up to £100,000 and it was shot in three days

2. Coldplay - The Scientist cost £200,000 and it was shot in three days.

One of Jamie Thraves Latest videos is Japanese pop star , song for Lisa and the video cost £20.00 and only took 2 days.

Lyrics for Our Music Video

Well I know
Love Struck
If you know what I mean
I don't mean to be doing what I'm doing
Does that make sense?

Damn i don't mean to make her cry, that's wack
Cant believe i went and broke her hear like that
No, she don't
 want to take me back
If i was her i wouldn't take me back
No, the parties and the women
Shes sleeping by herself while im out here slipping
Thinking to myself what the F*uck was i thinking
She always held me down from the beginning

If only I could take it back
Every bad deed i would eraaaaaaase
I must admit that i got out of hand
A different girl each and every daaay
Tiffany, Stacey, Tracey
Um, I stop remembering naaames
You can blame it was my fault
i'm really only sad i got caught

No i don't wanna leave
But i cant stand to spend another day
by your side
a I wish you could believe
but I did it time after time
i did it time after time
time after time.

You know the last time
its the same thing that you aid eh
and now i'm laying here
just crying by the bed
i wish that you'd believe me
but i know you cant
cause i hurt you time and time again

No i don't wanna leave
but i cant stand to spend another day
by your side
and i wish you could believe
but i did it time after time
i did it time after time
time after time

Next time it'll be different um, different um
time after time
next time it'll be different um, different um
time after time.

Top Ten 100 Music Video No.2

Peter Gabriel / Sledge Hammer / 1986

The song stands out; as it uses animation. To understand the whole song you have to keep watching the video so you have a fully understandable knowledge about the video. The whole song took month to record due to the animation, this video turned out to be a great video the song won 9 MTV awards, with the making of the video it ended with a large group of extras rotation of peter himself, among them Peters Daughter Anna and Melanie who animated the video. Gabriel lay under a sheet of glass for 16 hours while filming the video one frame at a time.

Top Ten 100 Music Video No.3

A-Ha / Take on me / 1985

The video use's animation to make the video seem very clever the whole song took 3 months to make as it takes a while to draw out the people in the video.  The record sold millions, and it got number one for a few weeks and they won a MTV award in 1995. The song made it big as it was a very unique idea which no other song has done.

Top Ten 100 Music Video No. 4

Queen / Bohemain Khapsody / 1975

This is the beginning of Queen and the song hit 9 weeks in the chart at number 1 which no other song has every done. They made ashore video as they don't really like to play live on Top of the Pops so they made this unique video as they edited to have all there faces on the video and people were shocked and amazed by it.

Top Ten 100 Music Video No.5

Madonna / Like a prayer / 1989

This video was one of the most contraversual songs that was every made as the song provoked people very much as in the video it showed a black jesus and in the late 80's people were very religious and also believed that jesus was white, so when this appear everything broke lose and Madonna lost all her contracts and pepsi didn't want a deal with her anymore due to this.

Top Ten 100 Music Video No.6

Robbie Williams / Rock DJ / 2000

The video is very contraversional and it catches the cockiness of how Robbie williams is, This video was when Robbie williams was on the peak of his popularity. In the video is shows who to live life and live life like a DJ as it shows you get women and you party everyday and enjoy life.

Top Ten 100 Music Video No.7

Michael Jackson / Billie Jean / 1983

In the song Billie Jean by michael jackson the song is very unique compare to other songs and in one part of the song the pavement lights up when michael jackson steps onto them, this shows that michael is like a god and what every he stands on lights up.

The video was to promote black people to make there own music video or even feature in videos.

Top Ten 100 Music Video No.8

The Verse / Bittersweet Symphony / 1997

They stole the idea from Massive Attack and the whole song is about not caring about life and there liabilities. The song gives a bad vibe and bad attitude towards people. The main artist just walks and walks not caring in the world as he bumps into to anyone who walks in his way, this is a sign of not bothering about life anymore.

In one part of the song he bumps into to a lady and she falls over, but he carries on walking not even looking back like they shouldn't of even been there.

Top Ten 100 Music video No.9

Madonna / Vogue / 1990

Madonna was the Author herself and understood , how the video would turn out and the music brought a controversy in religion, but it also created such an impact on future music video's. Madonna is known for her randomness, however this video was where it all began and was the video which drew the attention of the public in.

Voguing was a safe way of fighting in the game community as if two people had a problem they would dance off and who ever was the best would win the fight.

The background colour has vibrant colour which includes pink, purples and blacks and it shows tinie tempah brightening in the background. This is to catch peoples eyes and makes you want to buy the album.

Preliminary Video

This is our preliminary video were me and Nadia made a video of 'Don't go breaking your heart' By Elton John. This consisted of us lip syncing to the song and editing the parts to make it look like we are singing the song. Below is the final video that I edited, and i gave it different edits so we was together and both on our on.

Preliminary Task

The Preliminary Task is were we was testing our skills on editing and lip syncing with the song, The task we was set was 'Don't go breaking my Heart' By Elton John. We had to get two people to lip sink part of the song and see if we was to sync with the song. This is the most essential part of the song as it brings it all together. Me and Nadia acted out this and it becomes very difficult putting the song together with the lip syncing as you have to alter the toggle clip over load.

Silent Film Project

Silent Film Project is a unsigned band that produce music and for my music video I have emailed them to see if I could use their music video for my project.

Editing to the beat

This video is a play around of fast editing and the start of the sound has a lot of fast editing, so i has to cut different clips to match the sound of the beat. The more fast the beats are the harder the editing gets, so when cutting this clip it was really difficult to choose the clip so it look right and also get in time with the beat. Shown here the edits are really close together this is because its fast, and it needs to match the beat. If it doesn't match then it doesn't flow with the music.

Purpose of a Music Promo video

The reason for a music promo is to promote the song that is being view to the audience, the sing and song writer will want the song to spread to a variety of people so they can hear their song. This will introduce and get people to buy and download the song for them to listen to. The promo is there so it can reach a wide range of audience, this can be done by talk of mouth.

For example : Florence + The Machine - Spectrum

My Favourite Music Video

My favourite music video is Redlight - Get out my Head, I enjoy this song because at the start of the song the editing flows with the beat of the music which makes the song more rhythmic. The song also introduces a lot of dancing, this makes the video look more enjoyable and fun to watch. The other thing that makes me like this song is the contrast between the people in the video it includes indie people and it makes it look like big festival/ Carnival in the street. In the Video it also brings in flowers, which makes the video have more volume and vibrancy to the video.
